Last year I began a small side-quest: composing a selection of short piano miniatures.
It all began on a quiet evening when I started sifting through a bunch of piano improvisations I’d recorded on my phone over the years. I came across a short excerpt recorded on a Friday at 8.26pm and realised that it must have been made immediately after getting home from work, following a walk through Kelvingrove. Kelvingrove is especially beautiful at that time of evening, with the orange glow of the sun shining spectacularly through the trees.
Having found the recording, I decided it was worth refining it into a short piece to accompany footage taken on my next walk home. The idea was to post the result on social media as a little snapshot of a moment in my life.
After posting the piece, I was contacted by Donald Thomson, Commissioning Editor for Music at Kevin Mayhew Publishers, who went on to include it, along with several more of my pieces, in a new collection of contemporary piano music.
I’m incredibly grateful to Donald and Kevin Mayhew Publishers for including my pieces in this collection, which is now available!
